Tânia Pinto Varela is an Associate Professor in the Engineering and Management Department at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, and a member of the Center for Management Studies (CEGIST), since 2011. She has a Bachelor´s degree in Operations Research and Systems Engineering and a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Management. Tânia Pinto Varela has published more than 30 papers in an international peer-reviewed scientific journal. She has been involved in more than ten Portuguese and European Union-funded projects since 2001. Her research interests focus on the design, planning and scheduling of process systems, energy integration and transition; design and planning of sustainable supply chains, covering sectors such as Manufacturing Industries, Automotive, Pharmaceutical, and Food aiming to optimize processes and resources leading to their efficiency and resiliency, considering sustainable industries (SDG 9), mitigate the environmental impact (SDG 11) and ensuring healthy lives and promoting universal well-being coverage (SDG3).
