Summary

As a part of his research visit to IST Lisboa, Ali will present an overview of the ongoing research activities at the chair of Operations Management – RWTH Aachen University. The seminar will focus on various themes relevant to industrial transformation and climate-neutral systems, especially in Germany/Europe. For example, topics such energy transition, material- and energy-intensive industries as well as carbon and hydrogen value chains will be discussed. Relevant methods and derived frameworks will be also included and examples from recent papers will be presented.

 

Speaker's bio

Dr. Ali Abdelshafy is the head of research group “Climate-neutral industries” at the chair of Operations Management – RWTH Aachen University. He accomplished his PhD degree in RWTH Aachen University and holds a master’s degree in management of resources and environment and a B.Sc. in petroleum engineering. He has worked on several energy transition and decarbonization projects in the industrial sector and academia. He is a visiting fellow at the oxford Institute for Energy Studies and the University of Cambridge. He has been also selected as Theodore von Kármán and Charlemagne Prize Academy Fellow (2024/2025). His main research areas are energy-intensive industries, sustainable supply chains, energy transition & structural changes and alternative resources & fuels.
