Another excellent IO Congress with great CEGIST participation

This edition of IO2024 - XXIII Congress of the Portuguese Association of Operational Research took place at Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão do Instituto Politécnico de Viseu, from March 24 to 26, and was a joint organization by both institutions, sponsored by SISCOG. This year’s theme was "The potential of OR in the Formulation and Implementation of Public Policies", showcasing how Operational Research plays an important role in providing analytical tools and techniques to assist in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of efficient public policies, helping governments make more informed decisions.

The Augusto Queiróz Novais Award for “Process Systems Engineering” was awarded to “A two-level optimisation-simulation method for production planning and scheduling: the industrial case of a human–robot collaborative assembly line”, by Moniz, S., Gonçalves, B. S., Neto, P. and CEGIST members Vieira, M.Pinto-Varela, T., Barbosa-Póvoa, A. P.

The APDIO IO2024 Award, for the best PhD research in the area of Operational Research, was awarded to CEGIST member Miguel Alves Pereira, for the work “Efficiency and public policy of the Portuguese healthcare sector: A look at the pressing issues”, supervised by José Rui Figueira and Rui Cunha Marques.
