The IX Mathematics Fair took place at the National Museum of Natural History and Science on the 21st and 22nd of October. Two days full of scientific, cultural and educational energy, with games, demonstrations, and lectures, among many other activities.
CEGIST presented the activity "To cut or not to cut (or how to cut), that is the question" > CEGIST member Daniel Rebelo dos Santos and PhD students Alexandre Ricardo and João Carvalho de Almeida showed how to solve a cutting-stock issue - cutting standard-sized pieces of material, such as wooden boards, paper rolls or sheet metal, into specific-sized pieces that minimise total material waste.
