Launch of the PHSSR report, coordinated by CEGIST member Mónica Oliveira

The report of the Partnership for Health System Sustainability and Resilience (PHSSR) in Portugal, coordinated by CEGIST member Mónica Oliveira, and developed by CEGIST researchers Mónica Oliveira and Ana Vieira has been released.

The report of the Partnership for Health System Sustainability and Resilience (PHSSR) in Portugal, coordinated by CEGIST member Mónica Oliveira, and developed by CEGIST researchers Mónica Oliveira and Ana Vieira has been released. The report makes an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the Portuguese health system from the viewpoint of sustainability and resilience in seven domains: governance, financing, workforce, medicines and technologies, service delivery, population health, and environmental sustainability; and it presents the results from implementing a policy dialogue in which 40 top-level stakeholders and experts, departing from evidence and taking into consideration their own experience and views, collaborated in designing, commenting and selecting 43 policy recommendations. All policy recommendations gathered a very high level of agreement, delivering a strong message on how to move forward. The CEGIST team has specially designed and implemented the fit-for-purpose policy dialogue that was key for the project results.

The international initiative already took place in more than 20 countries through collaboration between the London School of Economics, the World Economic Forum and AstraZeneca, bringing together, in each nation, local partners to prepare the diagnoses and strategies to be followed. In Portugal the partnership involved as academic partner the Lisbon School of Economics & Management (ISEG) – with Prof. Aida Isabel Tavares actively collaborating with the IST research team - and as non-academic partners Astrazeneca, Phillips and KPMG.
