Francisco Viterbo is a researcher at the Centre for Management Studies in Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). He received his MSc thesis in Biomedical Engineering in December 2022. For his master's thesis, he Combined circular economy and healthcare management by using a novel participatory approach to gather expert judgment on what aspects should be considered in sustainable public procurement of single use medical devices. He helped create a massive open online course (MOOC) on Regulation in Health Technologies, for MOOC Técnico. In September 2023, Francisco enrolled in the Engineering and Management PhD at IST, collaborating with “Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte” (CHLN) in a business environment PhD. He is currently working on his thesis titled "Developing strategies and programmes to promote environmental sustainability in hospitals: new approaches to decision support", under the supervision of Professor Mónica Oliveira, from CEGIST, and co-supervised by Eng. Nuno Jorge, from CHLN. His interests are in sustainability and circular economy from a management and strategic perspective.
