Maria Odete Meneses is a researcher at the Centre for Management Studies of Instituto Superior Técnico (CEG-IST). She holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Management from Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, which she completed in April 2025. Her research focuses on the intersection of operations management and health systems, particularly in optimising complex supply chain networks. She is currently part of the research project “LAIfeBlood – Artificial Intelligence for Blood Management”, which aims to enhance the efficiency of the Portuguese blood supply chain through data-driven decision support tools. Maria Meneses has published three research papers in international peer-reviewed journals, addressing challenges related to healthcare logistics, predictive modelling, and optimisation methodologies. Her work helps bridge the gap between advanced analytical methods and practical decision-making in healthcare systems.

LAIfeBlood - Artificial Intelligence for Blood Management
The goal of LAIfeBlood project is to provide IPST with new tools to improve efficiency of blood supply operations in Portugal. LAIfeBlood project is particularly focused on: (1) extracting temporal and geographical patterns from historical collection and transfusion data; (2) developing predictive models for the expected collections and transfusions in different temporal and geographic areas; and (3) developing software tools to optimize the planning of collections at the national level according to the availability of IPST teams and resources and collection events.
