João Pimenta is a researcher at the Centre for Management Studies of Instituto Superior Técnico (CEGIST). He received his MSc in Biomedical Engineering from IST in 2023, specializing in Clinical Engineering. His master's thesis focused on medical device prioritization for Health Technology Assessment (HTA), combining systematic review methods, problem structuring, and participatory approaches. Following the completion of his degree, João joined CEGIST as a Research Fellow, where he conducted and published systematic literature reviews in the fields of health economics, health policy, and strategic foresight. In 2025, João enrolled in the Engineering and Management PhD programme at IST. His doctoral research, titled “Health Technology Assessment of medical devices: Multimethodological approaches for improved decision-making by public agencies (MEDI-MAP)”, is conducted under the supervision of Professor Ana Vieira (CEGIST) and Doctor Helena Monteiro (National Authority of Medicines and Health Products, I.P.). His research interests include HTA, health economics and management, multicriteria value measurement, stakeholder engagement and problem structuring.
