Miguel Alves Pereira is a Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Systems Engineering and Management at the Department of Engineering and Management of the Instituto Superior Técnico of the Universidade de Lisboa (IST ULisboa). He is a former Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management of the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP), Portugal. He is also a former Post-doctoral Researcher at FEUP and twice at the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science, as well as a former Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action Fellow at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Europe. He holds a doctoral degree in Engineering and Management at the IST ULisboa in 2021 (Pass with Distinction and Honour), where he also earned his integrated master's degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2018. During this time, he complemented his training by attending well-respected summer schools at the Technical University of Crete and the Wageningen University & Research, as well as several complementary pedagogical courses. His main interests concern business analytics and operational research / management science, emphasising the development of efficiency, productivity, and decision analysis models, and their applications to health, water and sanitation, sustainable development, energy, and climate change. He is the author of 19 scientific publications, as well as an ad hoc referee in 51 international peer-reviewed journals. He has been involved in 3 national and 3 international projects in various capacities, as well as in 2 consultancy projects. He is also a member of 5 scientific societies and has attended 33 national and international scientific events, being an invited speaker in 14 of them.
